ONSLRG UPDATES
Old North St. Louis Restoration Group is committed to encouraging equitable development, fostering community growth, and celebrating our historic, urban, and cultural character in Old North. We are excited to share some updates with you about what ONSLG has been up to this past year.
We partnered with Habitat for Humanity on redevelopment and new construction of single family homes in the neighborhood. Habitat for Humanity completed the homes and new residents have moved in at 1312 Warren Street, 1302 Monroe and 1304 Monroe.
Hebert Community Garden has been flourishing, community members filled additional garden beds with native plants, built a gazebo from salvaged materials, and planted fruit and nut trees that will bear harvests for all of our neighbors. We are grateful for our funding partners Spire, Forest ReLeaf, Seed STL, and Brightside St. Louis, and all of our donors and volunteers who contributed to the garden’s success.
We partnered with Lisa Mandel on an architectural design for a 2-bedroom, 1.5 bath, single story, senior friendly, energy efficient home to encourage more affordable home ownership within the neighborhood.
We continued to use grant funds from the Neighborhood Transformation Grant for beautification projects and building stabilization throughout the neighborhood.
We hired two part-time staff members through remaining Neighborhood Transformation Grant funds - a multi-faceted Community Asset Development Manager and an innovative Building Stabilization Project Manager. Through our ongoing partnership with Rise Community Development, we opened a temporary ONSLRG office at 2609 14th street for our new staff.
We secured funding through Invest STL’s Small Change Big Impact grant and were awarded funding to support our annual Holiday events in Old North. ONSLG hosted free family photos with Santa and partnered with 14th Street businesses to host local artists and vendors, live music, and family friendly activities for the day. ONSLG hosted a Senior Luncheon for 50 of our neighbors and gave away artisan baskets filled with local gifts and goods.
We began a partnership with Lutheran Development Group to bring for-sale, single family, prefabricated homes to Old North.
